Who Watches Digital TV – A Picture of a Client Segment

by on June 20, 2011

If you’re the type who keeps up with the latest technological innovations when it comes to home entertainment systems, what you probably have in your living room is already a digital TV set. If not, then you would still have an analog TV.

It was only recently that the switch from analog to digital TV was implemented in the US, UK and most parts of the world – the background of which we will learn a bit more about here. We will also look at the benefits of making the switch from analog to digital TV, and what the picture of a client segment looks like.

A Quick Background of the Transition to Digital TV

First, how was the transition from analog to digital TV made? In Denmark, all analog services were switched off on November 1, 2009.  During this time, TV stations transitioned from analog to digital broadcasting. Those who were receiving local TV signals over analog antennas had to use converter boxes in order for their television sets to have any reception at all, due to the switch from analog to digital.

Basically, what digital television broadcasting means is that TV signals are sent in a series of 1s and 0s. On the side of the broadcasting TV stations, this equates to taking up less broadband space. On the side of the consumers, digital TV means that they will have a better viewing experience.

What Digital TV Gives

If you don’t already have digital TV, you will need to adapt or replace the televisions set that you have so that it can receive digital TV signals. There are four ways that you can receive digital TV signals, which include:

-         Using an aerial antenna.

-         Using a satellite dish.

-         Using cable television.

-         Via phone lines.

The primary benefit of digital TV viewing and digital signal broadcasting is that it makes for a better viewing experience overall. Unlike analog TV which usually has a ‘snow effect’, ghosting, hissing or crackling, you will not have to view such an interference with digital TV.

Digital TV sets also come equipped with more channels even if you are only receiving the signal through an aerial antenna. Tech buffs would have a blast using the interactive features like radio, multiple channel viewing and electronic program guides.

A Picture of the Client Segment for Digital TV

So what does the client segment for digital TV look like? Even if you don’t want to replace your analog TV set with the latest HDTV model, you can still enjoy the benefits of digital TV broadcasting simply by using an adaptor. As mentioned earlier, consumers can simply use an aerial antenna to receive digital TV signal for free.  You can, however, go for more channels and features once you subscribe to cable or satellite TV packages.

Depending on your specific location, there should be a significant part of the population in your area that is already taking advantage of the great viewing benefits of digital TV. With the complete transition of television stations from broadcasting via analog to digital, almost all living rooms in the world have become equipped with the capability to view crisper, clearer and sharper images via digital TV.
